Welcome back!!
I trust you all had an enjoyable, restful, and rejuvenating summer - one that leaves you with many pleasant memories.

There are lots of things happening in the Parish in the next couple of weeks, so have your pen and calendar ready!

*  Sunday evening 6:30 services have resumed as of last Sunday, September 10.

*   Many of you are delighted to know that Ascension Cafe began last Sunday after the 8:30 a.m. service.  Special thanks once again to Mark and Phyllis for their continued hosting of the cafe and, of course, to all who assist in any way with this ministry.  If you haven't visited the Cafe previously, why not make it a point to attend.  It provides an opportunity to get to know your Parish family and to create special friendships.

*  Once again, Canon David, along with other interested people, are planning to ride bicycles, walk, or run, the 17.5 km from Cape Spear to the Anglican Cathedral.  This 'Ride for Refuge' takes place on Saturday, September 30 - walkers should gather at Cape Spear at 7 a.m. and bikers at 8 a.m. Refreshments will be provided at the Cathedral.  To donate or to join the team as a participant, please go to http://ride.with.us/AnglicanEastNL.  This link will take you to team captain Archdeacon Charlene Taylor's page.  To read more about the Ride, PWRDF's goal, and other details, contact Canon David (368-5693) or Ride for Refuge

*  The official Welcome Back Sunday is scheduled for September 24, 2017.  More details will be given in next week's enews and the Chimes.

*  The Men's Service Club is hosting a flea market/rummage sale on Saturday, September 23, from 8 to noon in the church's auditorium.  Once again members are hoping for donations of items suitable for a flea market.  Books are acceptable, but please no text books, encyclopaedia, or magazines.  Also, we cannot accept old TVs, stoves, fridges, or other large appliances.  Someone will be at the ramp entrance to the auditorium to receive your items on Thursday, September 21, and Friday, September 22, at the following times: 9 to noon,  1 to 4 p.m., and 7 to 9 p.m.  If you have any questions, or need assistance, please contact Tasker King at 368-5676, or taskerking@nf.sympatico.ca.  Thanks for your anticipated support!

*  With respect to the Men's Service Club, there will be a meeting on Monday, September 18, at 7 o'clock.  New members are always welcome!

Godly Play will resume on Sunday, September 17, at the 11 a.m. service for children of four years of age and up.

*  Mrs. Kearley is reminding the Senior Choir that rehearsals will resume this evening at 7 p.m.  She is hoping for some new members, especially for the alto and men's section of the choir.  Junior Choir is beginning next Wednesday, September 20, from 6 to 6:30 p.m. for children 8 years of age and older.  If you have any questions regarding the choirs, please speak to Mrs. Kearley, our choir director and organist.

*  Please take note that Confirmation registration 2018 will take place on Sunday, September 24.  To be eligible for Confirmation, candidates must be eleven years of age by December 31, 2017.

*  If you are interested in becoming a storyteller and/or doorperson for Godly Play, core training (by Donna Ronan and Kathy Peddle) is taking place at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Thursday, September 21, from 6 to 10 p.m. and the following Friday and Saturday from 9 to 5 p.m. each day.  Participants must attend all sessions for accreditation.  To register and to inquire about fees (which will include registration, materials, and lunch) please contact the Church of the Good Shepherd at cotgs@nf.aibn.com.  Registration deadline is September 18, 2017.

*  You may also like to mark your calendars for Friday, September 29!  A retirement dinner is in the making for the Rev'd Canon John Courage.  This hot roast beef dinner will take place at 6:30 p.m. in our church auditorium.  The $20 ticket is available from the Synod office until September 25, and can be obtained by contacting Elizabeth Crisby at 576-6697 or adminassistant@anglicanenl.net.

*  As you know, servers perform an important ministry in the leadership of our worship of God.  For many years Ascension has been blessed by having people, usually young people, involved in this ministry.  A formal schedule for our present Servers is being planned for this Sunday.  However, because work and school commitments have resulted in many Servers not being able to perform their duties, there is great need for more.  Members of the Parish, aged 10 and older (any age actually) are invited to take on this ministry.  Please contact the Bellamys if you are interested by calling 690-2224 or by emailing wm.j.bellamy@gmail.com.

*  Vestry members are reminded of the workshop on Sunday, September 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. beginning with a potluck.  Remember also that our regular monthly vestry meeting will take place on Thursday, September 28, at 7 p.m. in the multipurpose room.

*  You are all aware of the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey in Texas, Hurricane Irma's destruction, as well as the mudslides in Sierre Leone and the destructive floods in Nepal.  Once again PWRDF is providing help.  If you would like to donate to this worthy cause, you can do so through our Canada Helps page (option three) at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/the-primates-world-relief-and-development-fund-pwrdf/.  You can also read more about the relief being given by visiting http://www.episcopairelief.org/.

*  Captains, please remind your teams:  Sidespersons' Team # 4 and Counting Team # 2.
That's a whole lot of news for one week! *:) happy
If you don't use a calendar to mark in special events, just print a copy of the enews and highlight the items that are of interest to you.

Take care & God Bless,
 Jean (On behalf of Ascension)
