Safe Harbour Outreach Project (S.H.O.P.)

S.H.O.P. exists to advocate for the human rights of sex workers by listening to women engaging in sex work as they define their experiences, by seeing their strengths and skills, by valuing their autonomy, by treating them with dignity, by asking them what they need and want, and fighting for their human rights.

S.H.O.P. upholds human rights, harm reduction and supporting people where they are -  S.H.O.P. builds relationships. Building relationships, builds trust, so if or when someone is ready to make a change, they know S.H.O.P.  is there to support them.

Building relationships in why the Society and Justice Committee of the Diocese of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador is involved with the work of S.H.O.P.  As a church our baptism calls us to seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbours as ourselves.  We are also called to strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being.

S.H.O.P.  is part of the St. John’s Status of Women’s Council, working with more and more women seeking support of loving neighbours, peace, respect and dignity.  The Diocese of Eastern Newfoundland and Labrador has provided building space (un-disclosed location) for S.H.O.P to offer more programming and support.
